Range Hood Installation

Published by at 10:22 pm under House

This all started several months ago.  Actually probably sometime last year, but either way, this process has been a long time coming.  We talked about installing a new hood above our range, we wanted one that would now vent outside instead of venting back into our face.  (Honestly it never vented in our face, but it would have it we were a little taller.)

The first step in the process involved putting hole in our roof, so when we got our roof replaced earlier this year, we bought a vent to hook the hood too.  So while Terry was up there replacing the roof, I just ask him to add an extra hole and put on this vent, that was April.

And that is where this project sat for several months.  Until last month we were walking around Ikea, and checked out the “As-is” section, and found this range hood that looked brand new.  Not a thing wrong that we could tell, but it was marked down to like $30, which is just an amazing price.  So we bought it.

Next comes this weekend, we decided that this weekend was the time when we were going to install the range hood.  We were down at Lowe’s and we picked up the pipe and the elbow, and thought that we would be set.  That was almost true.  We had to cut two holes in the cabinet above the hood, and then another one in the ceiling into the attic.  Before we cut the hole into the attic, I needed to clear out a section of blown in insulation, so that when we cut the hole, it wouldn’t all just come down into the kitchen.  After the holes were cut, it was just time to place the pipes.  Connecting the duct work is actually a lot of work.  A bit dirty, and a little warm, (definitely a good idea that we waited till it was only like 60 out side, much better then doing this kind of work in the summer),  but a good project.  Sorry for those of you who like pictures, but I didn’t take any, maybe I’ll climb back up in the attic to take a pic of my beautiful duct work skills.
