While in Evanston this week, we checked out a place called Olive Mountain. It was recommended by some locals that were at my workshop. They mentioned that it was a good middle eastern restaurant so we decided to check it out. We ordered a Kifta Kabob and a Baked Lamb Shank, they were both pretty good. I think most of the food could have used a little more flavoring, but maybe that is how it was supposed to taste, I’m not sure, definitely not an expert on Middle Eastern food, but it was pretty good. We didn’t really like the soup, it could have used a little more seasoning, but it was definitely a good place to eat, And I would recommend it to anyone in the Evanston area, looking for a different place to eat.
So after arriving in Las Vegas around 5:30pm there time, fighting rush hour traffic, and then getting settled into the hotel. We had dinner then we all pretty much passed out. The next morning, we all got up ready to go and ready to move Mike, Kris and the boys into their new place. So after a good breakfast at the hotel, we drove over to the new place and moved all the stuff in. Well almost all the stuff, Mike and I were a little tired so we left some of the bigger stuff in the truck for some of the guys he works with.
That night after the traditional moving pizza (always required with a move) Mike and I took the truck to the rental place, and then I was off to the airport. My flight left Last Vegas at 12:45am on Thursday morning, (which is really 3:45am, Ohio time) anyway the flight arrived nicely on time at 7:30 am where my great friend John picked me up from the airport, and we headed home.
On the way back we stopped by the Ross Donut shop, to try some donuts that we heard were great. Well they were just OK, but tasted pretty good since we were a little tired. After that we drove by a friends new place, (they were moving in while I was gone) and stopped to visit for a few minutes, and since we were there, John and I helped move a piano into their house for them. Its always nice when you can serve those you are visiting..
So after a slightly shorter day, I have arrived in Albuquerque, NM. It was a very tough trip in regards to directions. When I pulled out of the parking lot of the hotel in Oklahoma City, I pulled onto Interstate 40, The hotel I am currently staying at is just off of I-40 as well, they are just like 600 miles apart from each other..
I stopped at a place called Dyer’s in Armarillo, TX. It was pretty good food. I ate a good combination plater. Pork, Beef & Brisket all pretty good, but the bbq sauce was awesome. The Pork was a little dry, but I liked it. I have been taking some pictures while I drive, so I’ll post them in a few days.
So as we were leaving the Halibut State Park there was a woman who sounded local, (you can tell by the accent) so we decided to ask her what good places were around to eat. We assumed there wasn’t really anything in Rockport since it was pretty much a fishing town, we assumed most things opened up early instead of staying open late. We also heard about Gloucester, place where the fishermen from the Perfect Storm were from, and she suggested that we check out a place called Latitude 43, she figured it would be open later, and was a place she liked, so we headed down the road to Goucester and checked out Lat 43. It was definately a hoppin’ place, which was kinda impressive since it was like 9 or 10 at night and this too was a fishing town. So we got a seat and sat down and had some good fish and seafood for dinner. Then took a walk around Gloucester and saw the harbor.
So after Dennis and Elan’s wedding we were heading back to the Hotel and saw this place called Kimball Farm, and saw that it was an ice cream place. So of course we had to stop. Ohh my goodness this place was awesome. I think the ice cream was homemade, and the portions were larger then life. The small was like $3.69 and the large was like $3.99 but the large was huge and the small wasn’t much smaller. According to a few other people there they recommended getting the kiddie size which was still big but smaller.
I found their website http://www.kimballfarm.com/ and I guess they have 3 different places, we were at the one in Carlisle, MA but I would guess that anyone of them would be good to try, especially if it were a really hot day, and you really wanted some ice cream.
